DIG IT kids’ excavator park opens
DIG IT, Australia's first mini excavator park for kids, opened for business in late May. This new concept in kids’ entertainment and education is located within the ThunderBird Park complex on Tamborine Mountain, an hour from both Brisbane and the Gold Coast on southern Queensland’s Scenic Rim.
A major step up from the sandpit, DIG It allows kids to operate genuine mini-excavators, just like a real construction worker, in a dedicated outdoor construction space. A total of nine Queensland-built CAT mini-excavators are part of the DIG IT experience that’s separated into different zones, with different fun challenges in each.
Designed for both children and their parents who love to play, DIG IT features a range of activities that are fun, educational and engaging, allowing kids to learn about the construction industry, earthworks, engineering, building, teamwork and the importance of safety.
Experienced instructors on site teach the basics of excavation, equipment operation and safety, making sure that everyone has a great time while staying safe.
At the completion of each zone’s challenge, kids receive their “induction card,” meaning they are fully inducted into the DIG IT worksite at the end of their session. A session (with all zones completed) takes approximately two hours, with four supervised sessions operating each day.
The four special DIG IT zones are:
- The Dig Zone – kids train on a 1.7 tonne excavator, digging in the earth.
- The Demolition Zone – use the wrecking ball to knock over the DIG IT towers.
- The Croc Zone – a precision challenge, trying to “hook a croc” with a 1.7 tonne excavator.
- The RC Zone – using remote-control scale model dozers, dump trucks, excavators and rear loaders, kids will get to operate machines, just like on the work site.
Additionally, ‘Mini Excavator Challenges’ are a great way for kids to test their skills and compete against their friends. Kids get to navigate obstacle courses and complete tasks, while learning about the importance of teamwork and safety.
Naturally, safety is top priority at DIG IT. All supervisors are trained and experienced, all safety equipment is provided and all activities are age-appropriate.
DIG IT is open on weekends and school holidays. Tickets are $45/person, with kids’ birthday party packages available ($50/person), as well as adult team-building events ($60/person), with additional elements included in these group bookings.
DIG IT promises an adventure in the driver’s seat that’ll a never be forgotten.
